The Grand Challenge Scholars Program

The Grand Challenge Scholars Program is a combined curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular program with five competencies that are designed to prepare the next generation of students for addressing the grand challenges facing society in this century. There are five competencies that include Global Perspectives, Research, Interdisciplinarity, Service Learning, and Entrepreneurship.

Why I Chose Grand Challenge Program

The Grand Challenge Scholars Program has a variety of drawing factors, but the ability to impact the world is the one that means the most to me. The world today faces a variety of problems, which need to be addressed by anyone willing to take on the challenge. This program is a way to meet people with the same vision of bettering the world, and it allows people with different experiences and backgrounds to meet and work together. The Grand Challenges allow for me to broaden my knowledge and experiences to help me better not only my immediate community, but the world as a whole.

Engineer The Tools of Scientific Discovery

For my Grand Challenge, I have chosen Engineer the Tools of Scientific Discovery. I am interested in continuing to discover the universe from the depths of the ocean to the expanse of space, to inventions that can benefit a variety of life. There is a great unknown that could lead to solving an abundance of other problems in the world because who knows what resources we have not discovered yet. Working toward making these discoveries can also lead to new advances being made that can solve challenges the world is currently facing as well. I believe that this challenge will allow me the opportunity to pursue my passion of analyzing and searching for new solutions to problems on a large scale.
